Screen Readers For People With Disabilities

There is a lot of technology avaliable and as such there has been leaps and bounds made in the area of assistive technology. This is one area in which many people have been helped to get past their disabilities and lead a better life. We the way in which the world is changing, there are less limitations being placed on someone with a disability.

A screen reader is one of the first areas that computer developers concentrated on to help the lives of the patients around them become more productive. It is just a type of software that is used to read the computer screen of a person with a disability. This gives the person the advantage of being able to work at a job using a personal computer or continue to attend university.

The best way to describe the process of screen reading is that it allows any of the text displayed onto a computer screen to be read out load for the person to hear. More sophisticated readers are able to scan the text from a projection screen and then translate this into spoken word.

A lot of computer software and hardware manufacturers has started making systems with the ability to convert text on a screen into speech. Speech readers can be gotten for free, but most of the quality software is only available by paying for a license for commercial software. Thus within this industry, it has been an awareness that not enough programs and computer systems have this assistive technology capabilities.

The Price of Screen Readers

Screen readers will vary in price. They can be simply a matter of a few dollars, a hundred dollars, and upwards to thousands of dollars. The devices that are within the thousand dollar range are quite sophisticated and can before other functions such as controlled other electronic devices.
